Army jawan’s body recovered in Siachen after 21 years

JAMMU, Oct 17: Army today recovered dead body of one of its soldier from Northern part of Siachen Glacier in Ladakh 21 years after he had fallen to death.
Northern Command spokesman Col SD Goswami said the jawan has been identified as Tuka Ram Bithawal Patil of 4 Maratha Li, a resident of Sangli, Maharashtra.
He said the jawan had fallen to death during operational patrol on February 22, 1993. However, since then his body had remained untraced.
During patrolling of Siachen Glacier, the troops on October 12 recovered the body of Patil, Col Goswami said, adding the body has been recovered after 21 years.
Army has informed the family of deceased jawan in Sangli, Maharashtra about recovery of the body.
