Army organises ‘Jhangar Idol’

NOWSHERA, June 27: As a precursor to the Jhangar Day celebration, two month long singing and dance competition organised by the Indian Army in Nowshera culminated with a thrilling grand finale named ‘Jhangar Idol’, today. The event was spread over a span of two months which started with auditions for solo singing and group dance performances. The solo singing competition was divided into two age groups, below 15 years and 16 to 30 years. The auditions were conducted in various locations of Nowshera, Lam, Jhangar, Seri, Kalsian and Gagrote. Four finalists in each group for singing and four dance groups were selected. The winner and participants in each category were felicitated with prizes by the chief guest, General Officer Commanding, Ace of Spades Division. In below 15 years age group, Reena Sayal from Bareri village, while in 15 to 20 years age group Kritika Suri from Nowshera grabbed the first prize. Amongst the dancing Bhangra group won the hearts of the audience and stood winners. Consolation prizes were awarded to rest of the participants. General Officer Comm-anding motivated the participants and complimented the efforts of all those who were involved in this talent search, while carrying out interaction with large number of civil and military dignitaries. Talent hunt ‘Jhangar Idol’ was conceived to discover and project the hidden dancing and singing talent present amongst the locals.
