KARGIL, Apr 2: The Indian Army organized Batalik Cricket League at Jubar Stadium, Batalik, as part of the Kargil Vijay Diwas 2025 celebrations. The event was aimed to promote sports, engage local youth and foster regional development.
A total of 13 teams participated in the tournament, divided into four pools. The final match saw Batalik A emerge victorious over Darchiks A by 47 runs. Batalik A posted 86 runs in their first innings, while Darchiks A managed only 39 runs in reply.
Col. Dinesh Singh Tanwar, Deputy Commandant of the 192 Mountain Brigade and Dr. Kacho Liyaqat Ali Khan, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Kargil, attended as chief guests. During the event, Indian Army introduced a unique initiative by procuring locally made Ladakhi Willow Cricket bats from Maryul Willow, a young entrepreneur from Hanu, which were presented as trophies. This move supported local artisans and promoted self-reliance.
Col. Tanwar announced plans for a district-level Sherquilla Cricket League next month at the same venue, highlighting the importance of sports in youth engagement and tourism promotion.
Dr. Khan praised the Army for supporting remote border villages through sports, medical camps, and educational initiatives, fostering positive youth development. Local resident Arif Hussain Ladakhi expressed his gratitude for the Army’s efforts in promoting sports and local industries, contributing to regional growth.
