SRINAGAR, May 11: A cricket tournament was organised by Army at Keran sector of Frontier district of Kupwara under the aegis of Chinar Corps.
A defence spokesman said the tournament witnessed participation of 14 teams from nine villages of Keran bowl and was played on a league system from April 3 to May 10. “The final was played between the teams from Bala Keran and Pine Keran and Bala Keran won the spirited match by 5 wickets and emerged as champions,” he said.
The spokesman said the tournament gained immense popularity amongst the locals, especially the youth who turned out in large numbers to cheer for their favorite teams.
“Brigadier Zubin Minwalla, the Commander of Keran based Army encouraged the players and assured the organizers of unflinching support towards people oriented friendly activities,” he added.
