DODA May 4: To create awareness on the rights of women and to encourage them to become a part of women empowerment, Army organized a 30 kilometers long cycle rally for girls of this district today.
The cycle rally was organized with the tag line, “Today’s Women: Brave, Fearless and Confident”, in which 34 girls from different schools and colleges of Bhaderwah and Doda participated.
The rally was flagged off by Brigadier NJ Singh Commander 4 Sector RR from Sub District Hospital Bhaderwah in the morning and after covering a distance of 30 kilomoters, the rally culminated at RR Sector Headquarter Suigwari, where Commander along with other senior officers of RR based at Bhaderwah and Doda received the participants.
“We were a little apprehensive to conduct the cycle rally of such a long distance that too exclusively for girls, but it was heart warming to see the participation of girls from the otherwise conservative background and the enthusiasm they showed is really commendable”, said Brigadier NJ Singh.
“Our focus was to create awareness on empowering women and building community consensus on key gender issues such as reproductive health, property rights for women, violence against women, and rights of women in the decision-making processes of the community. We are grateful to the participants and their parents as well, who were very supportive and happily agreed to let their girls participate in the event, which was an adventurous one”, he added.
Later, Commander 4 Sector RR distributed trophies, certificates and cash prize among all the participants and assured them all the help from Army in any field they want to venture in.
Beside girl students, prominent among those who took part in the rally include, Zakir Ali Ganai Physical Director GDC Bhaderwah, Jai Mala Thakur Assistant Professor Sociology and Dr Jaswant Singh Physical Director GDC Doda.
