Army organizes horse race competition

DODA, Sept 6: On the demand of Gujjar and Bakarwals who are residing in higher pastures of Dessa area alongwith their flocks, a horse race competition was organized by Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, Doda today at an altitude of 10,200 feet in the lush green meadows of Gotul.
A total of 170 Gujjar and Bakarwal horse men participated in the event which was witnessed by around 400 people who had gathered from the nearby areas for this unique event.
During the competition, all the winners were awarded cash prize sponsored by Commanding Officer, Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, Doda at an impressive award ceremony attended by all the Gujjar and Bakarwals of the area and members of Army and Civil administration.
The winner of first place received a cash prize of Rs 5000, while the second and third place winners got cash prizes of Rs 3000 and Rs 1000 respectively.
A special award Rs 2000 was presented to another rider for picking up the handkerchief while ridding.
