Army rescues 3000 civilians via NH

JAMMU, Sept 11: The Army today rescued 3000 civilians of Jammu, Udhampur and other States from Srinagar through the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which was closed at Ramsu for past several days.
Defence spokesman (MoD) Col SD Goswami said as the rush of people intending to be rescued from Srinagar was increasing and helicopters were unable to cope with the rush, Army brought 3000 civilians in vehicles up to Ramsu from Srinagar, where the highway was blocked for traffic.
The people then trekked the portion of washed away road with the help of Army and were again transported into buses up to Ramban and Jammu, where they reached midnight tonight, he said, adding the rescued civilians belonged to various parts of Jammu and tourists of other States.
