SRINAGAR, Feb 19: In order to promote classical music amongst the youth, Army along with Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) organized a Sarangi Recital by Ustad Kamal Sabri, son of Sarangi legend late Ustad Sabri Khan of Sainia Gharana today. The performance, organised under the aegis of Dagger Division was conducted at Thimmayya Auditorium, Baramulla for students of Baramulla Town.
Ustad Kamal Sabri interacted with the students and explained the finer points to make Indian classical music more interesting and popular amongst the younger generation. Many military and civilian dignitaries of Baramulla graced the occasion. The children of Kendriya Vidyalaya and youth of Chinar 9 Jawan Club, Baramulla turned up in large numbers and thoroughly enjoyed the classical concert.
The wholehearted response of the locals for the concert is a testimony to the improving peace and harmony in the area and is reflective of the constructive role that the Army is playing in spreading goodwill in the pristine valley through the powerful medium of art and culture.
At the end of the event, the artists were felicitated by Major General GS Rawat, GOC, Dagger Division.
Speaking on the occasion, the GOC expressed that such events help in promoting Indian culture as well as strengthening the bonds between the Army and the people.
The successful conduct of the event at Baramulla and two similar events at Uri and Rampur would encourage SPIC MACAY which is a cultural programme in the Valley after a number of years to bring more artists to perform in the pristine ‘Paradise of Earth’.
