Army’s JAG Department celebrates 30th Corps Day

UDHAMPUR, Dec 21: Department of the Judge Advocate General (JAG) of Army celebrates its 30th Corps Day with traditional gaiety and fervour at headquarters of Northern Command, here today.
The celebrations commenced with laying of wreath by Brig Praveen Kumar Sharma, Deputy Judge Advocate General, HQ Northern Command at the War Memorial in reverence of those who laid down their lives for the country.
A two days conference for the officers was also organized which was inaugurated by Lt Gen HJS Sachdev, who exhorted the officers to continue rendering timely advice to the commanders at grass root level.
The GOC-in-C, Northern Command, Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, while appreciating the ardent and exemplary service of the JAG’s Department, extended good wishes to the officers, staff and their families. He also recognized the untiring efforts of the JAG’s Department in ensuring speedy dispensation of Justice.
On this occasion Brig Praveen Kumar Sharma, Deputy Judge Advocate General talked about the challenges being faced by the department in terms of disciplinary cases and reiterated and reemphasized on upholding the department’s motto “Nyaya Eva Dharm” i.e. ‘Justice alone in the Supreme Duty’, at any cost and  under all  circumstances.
JAG is responsible for the administration of Military justice in all its varied aspects and deals in Courts Martial matters. He is the legal advisor to the Chief of the Army Staff in matters of Military, Martial and (in its fighting service aspects) International Law.
The JAG Department celebrated its 1st Corps Day on Dec 21, 1949, when the Bill for the present Army Act was introduced in the Parliament.
