Artificial lake on Tawi to be completed within one year: Sukhnandan

JAMMU, June 15: Minister of PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sukhnandan Kumar Choudhary today said that Artificial lake on Tawi will be completed within one year.
Addressing Tawi Andolan Activists on its annual day programme at Tawi Arti Ghat Bikram Chowk, Jammu he said that rejuvenation of all the rivers and other water bodies is priority of the State Government.
He appealed the people of Jammu to cooperate with the Government to keep river Tawi and other water bodies clean and pollution free.
While addressing the gathering, the Minister said that he has been watching every activity of Tawi Bachao with eagerness and he felt happy after participating in this activity.
The minister made a fervent appeal to the people residing along the river to stop throwing domestic and other wastes into the river.
Sukhnandan also requested the Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh who is the Minister for Housing and Urban Development to issue directions to the concerned officials to stop the release of industrial and domestic effluents into the river Tawi. BJP State general secretary (Org.) Ashok Kaul, assured the activists of the Tawi Andolan that Party shall back allsuch efforts which are aimed at protecting environment and ecological balance besides developing Tawi on the pattern of River Ganga.
Earlier welcoming both the leaders on the annual day of Tawi Andolan its Convener Chander Mohan Sharma (Adv.) welcomed both the leaders. Giving details of the plight of the river, he demanded that State government should constitute Tawi Development Board for comprehensive development of Tawi river.  Artists and singer of Bharatiya Sangeet Kala Kendra, who are carrying Beti Bachao Programme receded melodious devotional songs. Mohan Lal Dogra relived Director Song and Drama Division of Government of India was especially present on the occasion.
Other Prominent who joined Tawi Arti included Retired IGP Kasturi Lal, Er. Suraj Gupta, Mrs Anuradha Rishi, Prof. Rajinder Mishra etc.
