JAMMU, Aug 22: Arun Deep Singh of J&K created the biggest upset when he won the Jr. Boys Bouldering Title of the inaugural edition of the Monthly Series of North Zone Sport Climbing competitions which was organized by Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee at the international standard bouldering gym in the IMF Complex, New Delhi.
In a neck to neck contest with Mrityunjay Sharma, an international climber of J&K who had recently represented the country in the sport climbing World Cup at Navi Mumbai, Arun Deep upset his celebrated competitor and team mate, to grab the prestigious title and a cash prize of Rs.2000, Mrityunjay secured the second place and a cash prize of Rs.1500. Sangram Singh of Delhi finished third and was given a cash prize of Rs.1000.
In the Men’s Section Adarsh Singh of Delhi, an international climber secured the first place followed by Abhishek Mehta, another international climber at the second place.
It may be mentioned here that in order to give more and more competitive exposure and thus prepare climbers for the next year’s Asian Games at Indonesia and the Tokyo Olympics -2020 the Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee has started Monthly Series of competitions in all forms of Sport Climbing at different venues in states of the North Zone. The inaugural competition at Delhi was organized in Men’s and Junior Boys categories in Bouldering only.
