JAMMU, Nov 27: Chess prodigy Arushi Kotwal has been conferred with State Award for the year 2016 today for her excellent performces at State, National and International levels.
The award carries Rs 51,000 cash prize, Gold medal worth Rs 1.25 lakh and a memento.
Arushi Kotwal basically belongs to Chinta, a remote area of Tehsil Bhaderwah, District Doda. Arushi is the youngest player of State to get the Sher-e-Kashmir Sports awards for the year 2011-12 at the age of 7 years and 8 months when the award was announced in January 2012.
She is the first and only one chess player from Jammu and Kashmir, who has been awarded WCM title by World Chess Federation for winning Silver medal in Western Asian Chess Championship-2018 at Taskent Uzbekistan.
Besides this WCM Arushi Kotwal is the only player who has won medals in all three formats of Chess game (Standard, Rapid & Blitz).
