JAMMU, Oct 16: A splendid knock of 82 runs and 3 important wickets by Aryan Gandral helped RN Chopra Academy Blues to thrash Regional Research Laboratory (RRL) School by a huge margin of 89 runs in Under-14 boys category of Col RN Chopra Challenge Cup which got underway, here today.
Dr Ram A Vishwakarma, Director, Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine was the chief guest on the inaugural function, who while speaking assured all help to the Academy in honing skill of the players by organizing more and more tournaments.
The tournament is being organized under the supervision of Rakesh Basin, organizing secretary, Zabeer Ahmad, Sukomal Ganguly, coach and Deepak Dogra, assistant coach.
Mr Basin while speaking on the occasion said that the organizers aim at inviting budding girls also to the Academy to polish their skill and make the Academy broad-based, adding that the Academy was started in October last year with the admission of just 10 boys in it and now it can boast of having over 60 budding cricketers in its kitty.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, RNCA Blues scored 188 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the stipulated 30 overs. Aryan Gandral was the top scorer with 82 runs, studded with 14 delectable boundaries, while Paras Khajuria and Sarthak Peshin contributed 26 and 21 runs to the total respectively. For RRL School, Parthamesh and Dinesh scalped 3 wickets each.
In reply, RRL School bundled out for a paltry total of 99 runs in 22 overs. Sujit Kumar (24) and Daksh (19) were the main contributors. For RNCA, Aryan Gandral took 3 wickets, while Aditya Chib and Sarthak Behl claimed 2 wickets each. For his magnificent all-round performance, Aryan Gandral was adjudged man of the match.
Meanwhile, in Under-12 boys, Academy Green defeated Minerva School by a huge margin of 126 runs. Academy scored 156 runs in 20 overs, with a thunderous knock of unbeaten 96 runs by Arya Sachivansh Thakur and valuable 31 runs by Ayush Andotra.
Minerva School, in reply collapsed at meagre 30 runs, thus lost the match by a huge margin. For Academy Green, Nitin Sehdev was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 important wickets.
RNCA Academy has taken the initiative of organizing 20-over matches for Under-12 Group, 30-over matches for Under-14 Group and 40-over matches for Under-16 Group.
