Ashwani plays old music, shows glimpses of youth

JAMMU, June 13: Veteran of many battles, magical Ashwani Gupta, former J&K Ranji trophy skipper and Duleep Trophy player, showed glimpses of his prime youth, while playing old music in his cool, composed and extraordinary innings of unbeaten 62 runs, hitting the ball with fluid grace, sublime touch and utter brilliance against the winners- Laxmi Cricket Club in the semifinals of the Salute and Tribute T20 Veteran Cricket Tournament, being organized by Parade Sports Association at Parade Ground, here.
Representing strong Dogra Cricket Club, his fabulous knock and 3 important wickets failed to save his team from the defeat against well-knit side of Laxmi Cricket Club.
Earlier, Laxmi Cricket Club rode on handsome knocks from dangerous Pardeep Bali and Anshuman Sharma and scored a decent total of 167 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process. Bali top scored with 67 runs off 50 balls, studded with 7 boundaries and one six, while Anshuman contributed quick-fire 48 runs off 23 balls with the help of 6 fours and 2 massive sixes. Subash also chipped in with 16-ball 18 runs including 3 boundaries. For Dogra Club, Ashwani Gupta and Sunil Sambyal scalped 3 wickets each, while Rajesh Tandon claimed one.
In reply, Dogra Club managed to score 139 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Ashwani Gupta played a brilliant innings of unbeaten 62 runs off 56 balls, studded with 6 crispy boundaries. He played the way he used to play in his prime youth, making ones and twos and hitting an odd boundary, while Rajesh Tandon and Nadeem contributed 15 runs each and Ashok chipped in with 4-ball 14 runs with 2 fours and one six. For Laxmi Club, Pardeep Bali, Anshuman Sharma and Amarjeet Singh bagged 2 wickets each, while Munish Chib claimed one wicket. Pardeep Bali was adjudged man of the match for his all-round show.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and Vijay Dogra as umpires, while Ajay Sharma was the scorer. Harsh Nayyar is the organizing secretary of the tournament.
