JAMMU, Oct 16: Just concluded Asian games Silver-medalist wrestler Deepak Punia today said he has been eyeing gold in 2024 Paris Olympics and is preparing for that.
Punia, who was here to visit holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji to seek blessings of the Goddess and meet his mentor Vikram Mahajan whom he credited for his success, told Excelsior News in an exclusive interview that he had worked hard for Asian Games and is now preparing much harder for upcoming Olympics in Paris (France) in 2024.
“I have been working hard. My target is gold in Paris Olympics. I have been giving six hours daily to the game and I’m quite confident of success,” Punia said.
Asserting that the target should be tough, he said he was fully focused to the game and will leave no stone unturned to achieve the target.
Deepak Punia called upon the youth to switch to sports whichever they want.
“Youth should take to sports whether it is wrestling, boxing, kabaddi or whichever game they want. Then, they should fix the target and achieve it,” he said and called upon the youth to stay away from steroids saying they should know what they have been consuming.
Replying to a question by the Excelsior News that how he is feeling after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi after returning from Asian Games, the wrestler said he has met the Prime Minister a number of times earlier also.
“I feel myself fortunate on meeting the Prime Minister,” Deepak Punia said.
Referring to his Jammu visit, he said main purpose was to pay obeisance to Goddess Vaishno Devi and meet Vikram Mahajan because of whom I have achieved the success.
“Vikrant Mahajan always told me to target Olympic gold and that’s what I have been doing,” Punia said.
