Asian Para Games: J&K athletes praise Anand Mahindra for offering car to Para Archer Sheetal for thrilling performance

JAMMU, Oct 29: Elated with the gesture of India’s business tycoon Anand Mahindra, Chairman Mahindra Group, the Jammu and Kashmir athletes have shown praises on him for offering any car of Mahindra to para archer Sheetal Devi for her thrilling performance in the Asian Para Games.

Sheetal hails from Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir and is a trainee of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra.

Anand Mahindra posted on ‘X’, “I will never, EVER again complain about petty problems in my life. #SheetalDevi you are a teacher to us all.” “Please pick any car from our range & we will award it to you & customise it for your use,” he posted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also congratulated the Para archers Rakesh Kumar, Sheetal Devi and Sarita on winning the medals at Asian Para Games and making the country proud by posting on X.

Meanwhile, welcoming Anand Mahindra, J&K athletes expressed gratitude for the gesture, desiring that the corporate sector must jointly come forward to groom and strengthen sports in the country.

“I am overwhelmed with a noble gesture and initiative by Anand Mahindra to honour Para Archer from Kishtwar Sheetal Devi who made the country proud,” Kuldeep Handoo, International Wushu Player and Coach Indian Wushu team told.

He expressed that it is a great message to the corporate sectors across the nation to step forward in support of promising athletes so that their potential reaches the right platform with zest.

International fencer, Rashid Ahmad Choudhary told UNI, “many congratulations to ace para archer Sheetal Devi for winning double gold medal in prestigious games.”

“Her acknowledgement by Anand Mahindra by offering her a car is an amazing and encouraging initiative and likewise, several other business houses must come forward to boost the Indian youth as talent is in every nook and corner of the country that can shine at the global level.”

Ace footballer from Jammu and Kashmir, Arun Malhotra terming at a moment of pride said, “specially abled Sheetal Devi has brought laurels to the country and have become an inspiration to everyone.”

“Sheetal has shown the way to and has become a role model for the Indian youth,” said Malhotra adding that the gesture by Anand Mahindera is appreciable.

“We need corporate houses to come forward to provide facilities and encourage new talent to exhibit their skill in sports. Corporate houses have a big role to play.”

“I urge upon the corporate sector to revolutionise the Indian sports by contributing their share because nationis loaded with talent and energy that can be transformed into medals at such platforms,” he added.

Groomed and trained at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sports Complex, Katra in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, para-archers, Rakesh Kumar, Sheetal Devi and Sarita created history and made the country and the Union Territory proud by winning five medals at Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China in different categories of Archery events held in the Para Asian Games started from October 22 to 28.

The phenomenal Shrine Para archer, Sheetal Devi delivered a scintillating performance by clinching the coveted gold medal in Women’s Individual Compound Open event defeating Singapore in a nail biting competition. Besides, Sheetal along with Sarita had won silver medal in women’s Doubles Compound archery event.

Pertinent to mention that it is a hat-trick of medals for Sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar in the Para Asian Games.

Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, who is also the Chairman of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board had also congratulated all the sports persons for their performance.
