Sr Womens One-Day Tournament gets underway

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, June 3: Promising medium pacer Asra Shafi took 6 wickets, while skipper Sarla Devi and gutsy Tanisha Sharma scored brilliant half-centuries as JKCA A1, A3, B2, B5 registered victories over their rivals in the Senior Womens One-Day Tournament, which got underway at different venues across the Union Territory today.
The tournament is being organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).
Four matches were played today with two in each province.
At GGM Science College Hostel Ground Jammu, JKCA A1 defeated A2 by 4 wickets.
Earlier, put into bat, JKCA A2 scored a modest total of 103 runs. Sarla Devi scored magnificent 50 runs off 46 balls, studded with 10 boundaries. For A1, medium pacer Neemami Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, who took 4 wickets, while skipper Sandhya Sayal and Urvashi claimed 2 wickets each.
In reply, JKCA A1 chased the target by losing 6 wickets to win the match by 4 wickets. Shivanti Gupta scored 22 runs, while Urvashi and Neemami contributed 18 and 16 runs respectively. Himanshi took 3 wickets, while Kajal claimed 2 wickets for JKCA A2.
At University of Jammu Ground, JKCA A3 defeated A4 in an easy contest by 8 wickets.
Put into bat, JKCA A4 scored a modest total of 102 runs, with Sanjana and Vanshika scoring 19 and 18 runs respectively. For JKCA A3, Priyamvada and Tanisha took 3 wickets each, while Nadia Chowdhary bagged 2 wickets and Riya claimed one.
In reply, JKCA A3 won the match by 8 wickets, losing just 2 wickets to surpass the total.
At Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium Ground-A, Team B5 thrashed B4 by 9 wickets.
Electing to bat first, A4 scored a paltry total of 70 runs in 23.5 overs. Shaheena Pakhan (14) and Afreen Malik (13) were the main contributors. Aabroo took 3 wickets, while Khushboo and Insha bagged 2 wickets each.
In reply, A5 chased the target in 11.3 overs by losing one wicket, thus won the match by 9 wickets. Sheerazah Banoo top scored with 39 runs, while Khushboo contributed 20 runs to the total.
At Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, Ground-B, JKCA B2 defeated B1 easily by 5 wickets.
Batting first, B1 collapsed at a meagre total of 48 runs. Iqra Nabi and Ruqaya were the only two batters to cross double figure mark, scoring 13 and 11 runs respectively. Asra Shafi was the wrecker-in-chief for B2, who took 6 important wickets, while Gousia Shahban took 2 wickets.
In reply, B2 scored the required runs in 11.2 overs by losing 5 wickets, thus won the match by 5 wickets. Zeenat Ramzan scored 28 runs, while Bismah Hassan contributed 8 runs to the total. For bowling side Iqra Rasool bagged 3 wickets.
