Assembly Panel suggests proper planning for protection of forests

JAMMU, Dec 10: The Committee on Estimates of Legislative Assembly today suggested for proper planning for protection, conservation and preservation of forest wealth. It also stressed for coordinated efforts among the sister departments to save the environment of the State.
The Committee, which met under the chairmanship of MLA Nizam-u-Din Bhat here today, discussed the working of the forest and its allied wings.
The Committee Members Ashok Khajuria, Ashwani Kumar Sharma, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, Syed Rafiq Ahmad Shah and Syed Naeem Akhtar Indrabi attended the meeting and gave their suggestions for further improvement in functioning of the Forest Department and its allied wings.
Detailed discussion was held on issuance of timber to consumers. The penal directed the concerned to fix a norm for validity of sanction.
While discussing the measures taken by the department to curb the menace of smuggling of forest wealth, the Committee stressed for strengthening Forest Protection Force.
Principal Chief Wild Life Warden A. K. Singh, Director General, Accounts and Treasuries Jehangir Hussain Mir, various Heads of Forest and its allied Wings and other senior officers of Assembly Secretariat were present in the meeting.
