SAMBA, Jan 7: Carrying forward the tradition of celebrating Ladli Beti Diwas on the 7th of every month, a function was organized at Ghagwal today.
On the occasion, District Development Commissioner Samba, Sheetal Nanda was the chief guest, while field functionaries of ICDS, Health Department and local community members were also present.
DDC Samba distributed hygienee and study kits, shoes and blankets among the poor and orphan girls, who were identified by a team of officers, designated as Sub Divisional Task Force, constituted under SDM Ghagwal. The team conducted a detailed survey and put forward the list of poor orphan girls along with its recommendations. The team had submitted a list of 13 girls along with details of provisions and facilities recommended for them.
DDC emphasized on dire need of ending discrimination with the girl child and providing equal opportunities to them.
She also directed Sub Divisional Task Force BBBP Ghagwal to pursue cases of school dropout girls with their parents and ascertain reasons so that they may be enrolled in the next academic session.
During the programme, DDC also honoured mothers of newly born girl child and distributed sweets among them.
An awareness programme on Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act was also organized for the participants.
SDM Ghagwal Narayan Dutt Sharma, DSWO Mushtaq Choudhary, Tehsildar Rajpura Preeti Sharma, Tehsildar Ghagwal Kanchan Bala, BDO Ghagwal Bhawani Attri, CDPO Ghagwal Saleem Beigh, BMO Nud Sudershan Katoch and Medical Officer Dr Sandeep Raina were also present on the occasion.
