RAJOURI, Aug 11: The attendants of a patient allegedly ransacked the office of Medical Superintendent of District Hospital, Rajouri today.
Hospital sources said that some attendants hailing from Thannamandi area barged into the office of Medical Superintendent Dr Mehboob Hussain and asked for providing ambulance. The Superintendent asked to wait for some time. The family members of the patient Mohd Shamsheer (Police Head Constable), son of Mohd Zaman, resident of Bhathian village in Thannamandi again approached him as the patient was serious and he had been discharged on the request of the family members for taking him back home. He was there in district hospital for the last four days and had been kept in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
As there had been some tiff over the issue of non-availability of an ambulance in hospital, the attendants turned agitated and they allegedly ransacked some office furniture and abused Medical Superintendent. The family then managed an ambulance from police department after waiting for over two hours and shifted the patient to their home in Thannamandi. The patient, however, died later at home this afternoon.
His son Shahbaz Khan alleged that they were made to run after the doctors to get an ambulance from the hospital. Later, they moved to the office of Superintendent. On the rude behaviour of Medical Superintendant, the boys got agitated and had tiff. He denied having ransacked office or damaged any thing. He alleged the staff itself created drama to cover up their misdeed. Mirza alleged that ambulances are mostly used by their own staff and they are hardly provided to the patients.
Dr Mehmood however, when contacted said that patient was his ex-class mate and belonged to his village. He used to visit his ICU ward every day and provided best possible help. He said he was in comma and had very serious problem. The family knew about it as he had been under treatment at PGI and AIIMS as well. The family intended to shift him back to home as his condition had deteriorated. They asked for ambulance and out of five total vehicles two were already available and driver had also come there and he had been issued duty slip. The family infact was waiting for some police officers who wanted to meet the patient. They were waiting for them. In between some youth barged into his office and started abusing. “They even man-handled me and damaged fax machine and computer and threw furniture. They beat up my peon and then escaped. We did not react much being known and I also asked other staff to keep calm. Then they left in police ambulance. I have lodged a written complaint with the SHO Rajouri in this connection. The security is also not available in this hospital. It was withdrawn a few months back. Had it been there at least damage to the Government equipment/ machinery could have been averted,” Dr Mehmood said.
