Atul Gupta heads Indian delegation at World Cadet Chess C’ship

JAMMU, Nov 13: In a significant achievement, Atul Kumar Gupta, the Working President of the All J&K Chess Association (AJKCA) and Chairman of the All India Chess Federation (AICF) Research and Development Commission, has been appointed as the Head of Delegation for the Indian team at the World Cadet Chess Championship. This prestigious event will be held in Montesilvano, Italy, starting tomorrow.
The delegation will also include Madhav Wanave, Deputy Director of the Sports Authority of India, as Manager, with Women Grandmaster Arthie Ramaswamy and Abhishek Kelkar serving as coaches for the girls’ and boys’ teams, respectively. The Indian team, fully sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), Government of India, will compete against players from around 70 countries.
Atul Kumar Gupta’s leadership and dedication to the growth of chess in India, especially in Jammu and Kashmir, have been pivotal. He has been behind the organization of over 130 events, free chess camps, and the historic South Asian Amateur Chess Championship in Jammu and Kashmir. His prior roles include serving as the Chief Protocol Officer for the 44th Chess Olympiad at Mahabalipuram, where 187 countries participated, as well as managing Indian teams for tournaments in Moscow and Bulgaria. Under his expert guidance, the Indian team is expected to have strong medal prospects at the World Cadet Chess Championship.
