Auqib, Yudhvir dismantle Services; Khajuria shows tenacity

LG attends J&K, Services Ranji match

SRINAGAR, Oct 26: On the opening day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group-A match at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here, J&K took command against Services, thanks to the impressive performances of fast bowlers Yudhvir Singh and Auqib Nabi, along with a resilient innings from Shubham Khajuria.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha attended the match and was honored by members of the J&K Cricket Association (JKCA), including Brigadier Anil Gupta, Mithun Manhas, and Advocate Sunil Sethi, along with cricket development in-charge Majid Dar.
The quartet along with Member Cricket Advisory Committee, Abdul Qayoom also honoured Sharat Shridharan, National Senior Selector on the occasion.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Services struggled to a mere 71 runs in 25.1 overs, with Yudhvir and Auqib each taking 5 wickets. Yudhvir’s exceptional bowling figures were 5 wickets for just 17 runs in 9.1 overs, while Auqib gave away 29 runs in his 9 overs.
Nitin Tanwar and Pulkit Narang were the only batters to reach double figures, scoring 18 and 14 runs, respectively. Key players like skipper Rajat Paliwal, Ravi Chauhan, and SG Rohilla fell short, unable to make significant contributions.
In response, J&K ended the day at 183/7 after 54.1 overs, led by opener Shubham Khajuria, who scored a gritty 55 runs off 94 balls, including 8 fours and a six. Other notable contributions came from Shubham Singh Pundir (29), skipper Paras Dogra (28), and Abid Mushtaq (16). For Services, Varun Choudhary was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 22 runs in 13.1 overs, while PS Poonia added 2 wickets, and AP Sharma and Jayant Goyat each took 1 wicket.
As the match progresses, J&K will aim to build on their strong position and secure a win against Services.
