Awareness camp on “Mediation & Conciliation” organised

SRINAGAR, Dec 23: District Legal Services Authority, Pulwama today held an awareness camp on “Mediation & Conciliation” and “Prevention of Violence against Women”.
The camp was presided over by Muhammad Yousaf Wani, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Principal District and Sessions Judge, Pulwama). A large number of respectable and prominent citizens across the district Pulwama participated in the seminar.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal District and Sessions Judge highlighted the concept of mediation by explaining its need and advantage as an appropriate mode of alternate dispute resolution mechanism. It was suggested that people in general and litigating public in particular should willingly consent for expected amicable settlement of their disputes through the mediation mode of ADR mechanism.
The common people were made to know that a good number of experienced lawyers and retired Judges have been already trained as mediators to whom the pending cases or even any pre-litigation case can be referred for settlement.
While explaining the advantage of the concept of mediation, Principal District and Sessions Judge said that mediation saves time, money, curtails mental agony and presents a win-win situation. The participants were also made aware about the rights of the women under law and measures were suggested to be undertaken by the administration and police agency for early prevention of the violence and offences against the women.
The dignitaries, who were present on the occasion, include Malik Shabir, Munsiff Pulwama, Jehangeer Bakhshi, Munsiff Pampore, Dr Shah Faisal, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Pulwama and Advocate Gull Muhammad, President Bar Association Pulwama.
