Ayush, Sarthak, Praful, Musaif shine in Jammu’s thrilling win

UDHAMPUR, May 31: Opening batsman Ayush Andotra, skipper Sarthak Peshin, off-spinner Praful Dhar and promising youngster Musaif Azad sparkled in Jammu District’s thrilling win by 2 runs over Reasi District in the State Level Inter-District Under-14 Boys Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Subash Stadium, here.
Earlier, put into bat, Jammu District scored a fighting total of 125 runs in the stipulated 16 overs, losing 4 wickets in the process. Ayush Andotra was the top scorer with unbeaten 57 runs off 49 balls, while Sarthak Peshin and Musaif Ajaz contributed valuable 24 and 15 runs to the total respectively. Both the batsmen were instrumental in building superb partnerships with batting mainstay Ayush Andotra to help the team reach a respectable total. For Reasi District, Vansh Pratap was the pick of the bowlers, who claimed 3 important wickets.
In reply, Reasi District fell just 2 runs short of the required target as they managed to score 123 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Rohit Bhagat was the top scorer with 29 runs, while Abid Hussain contributed 17 runs to the total. Angrez Singh and Mushtaq chipped in with 13 runs each. At one point of time, Reasi batsmen were going great guns and their team was comfortably placed at 72 for the loss of 2 wickets in 7 overs. However, off-spinner Praful Dhar removed both the set batsmen on two consecutive balls to change the complexion of the game. For Jammu, Sarthak Peshin bagged 3 wickets, Praful Dhar scalped 2 wickets, while Sanat Anand, Marutwan and Sachin claimed one wicket each.
In other matches played today, Kishtwar drubbed Anantnag, Bandipora defeated Udhampur, Baramulla got better of Doda, Pulwama trounced Kupwara and Ganderbal outplayed Shopian.
The Tournament is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the patronage of its Director General, Navin Agarwal and under the supervision of DYSSO, Sukhdev Singh.
