Azad flays Govt attitude on Kashmir

NEW DELHI, Apr 29:
While welcoming the observation of the Supreme Court that the Government should hold talks to resolve the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the Centre was adopting a ‘stubborn’ attitude towards talks.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Azad said,”the Government is adopting a stubborn attitude with regard to dialogue. It wants to muzzle the voice of the people by saying no to talks.” Mr Azad’s comments came in response to the Centre telling the Supreme Court that there will not be any talks with separatists or those raising slogans of Azadi in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Centre informed the Supreme Court yesterday that a dialogue to restore normalcy was possible only with the legally recognised stakeholders or political parties.
Slamming the Centre’s response in the Apex Court, Azad said,”Kashmir is a part of our own country. Why hesitate holding talks with your own people.” The senior Congress leader questioned as to why the Government did not want a dialogue when the PM had earlier held meetings with the Pakistani PM and talks had been held between officials of India and Pakistan. ”When there was no intention of holding talks, why did the PM meet the Pakistan PM,”he said.
