Azad writes to CM for formulating comprehensive sports policy, rewarding Chain Singh

JAMMU, Oct 1: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad in a letter to Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed regarding honouring J&K’s bronze medalist in 2014 Asian Games, Naib Subedar Chain Singh, has requested the Chief Minister for formulation of a comprehensive sports policy to promote sports and physical activities in the State.
Mr Azad in the letter stated that Chain Singh is a celebrated and promising sportsperson hailing from his native area of Gundoh, Bhallessa in Doda of J&K State, who has represented India in galaxy of shooting events and kept the Country’s and State’s flag high by winning medals in most of them, with distinction of winning bronze medal in Asian Games 2014 by dint of his sheer perseverance and devotion.
“Fortunately, he is one of the rarest sportspersons from our State, who will be privileged to participate in Rio Olympic Games-2016. Accordingly, I sincerely feel that the State Government needs to come forward wholeheartedly to support his efforts to prepare for the prestigious event with full confidence, drive and enterprise,” Mr Azad wrote.
He further wrote that the need is to formulate comprehensive sports policies analogous to Government of Haryana and other States to promote sports and sportspersons by providing them handsome cash rewards for winning medals in Olympic, Asian, Commonwealth and allied international events.
In the letter, Azad has also requested the Chief Minister to consider granting liberal financial support to Chain Singh for ensuring his preparedness and training for the coming Olympic Games.
