Badminton tourney gets underway

JAMMU, Feb 11: A Badminton Tournament under Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2014-15 was declared open by J&K Police, District Jammu at Arnia, Sub Division RS Pura, here today.
In inaugural function, MLA Bishnah, Kamal Verma was the chief guest.
Senior Army Officers, presidents of different Trade Unions and Social Organisations witnessed the inaugural function.
58 players are taking part in the tournament. 8 under-15 girls, 12 under-15 boys, 8 under-19 boys and 30 men played their matches today.
In under-15 girls catagory, Shivangi and Anshika reached the final by defeating their opponents Anjali and Mandeep Kour by 11-7, 11-6 and 11-5, 11-4 points respectively.
In under-15 boys catagory, Mohit and Tushar reached final beating their rivals Vatan Sharma and Rajat Gupta by 11-9, 11-8 and 11-8, 11-7 points respectively, while in under-19 boys, Navdeep Singh and Ramandeep reached final by defeating Hari and Abhishek by 11-9, 9-11, 12-10 and 11-5, 11-7 points respectively.
The semifinals of men’s singles and doubles and finals of other categories will be played tomorrow.
