Balbir scripts convincing win in veteran singles event

JAMMU, Aug 24: General Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Badminton Association (JKBA), Balbir Singh Jamwal, began his campaign on a winning note in the ongoing 27th Jammu District Badminton Championship 2012, being organized by JKBA, under the overall supervision of Dilbag Singh, president JKBA at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here.
Som Raj Gupta is the organizing secretary of the tournament.
Earlier, Balbir Singh trounced Amit Koul in the singles event in an easy contest by (21-10, 21-14), while in other singles events in veterans, Vivek Salathia drubbed N Khajuria by (21-13, 21-10), Sanjeev Goel outclassed Sunil Gurkha by (21-18, 21-12), R Raina got better of Vijay Verma by (21-11, 21-14) and Ramesh Sharma thrashed Ashok Kumar by (21-07, 21-06).
In veterans doubles events, the duo of Sunil Gurkha and Anil Gurkha prevailed upon the pair of Prem Dewan and Balbir Singh in straight sets by (21-17, 21-16), while in other results, PD Gupta and Surinder pair toppled the duo of Vivek Salathia and Inder Bhushan in a close contest by (21-19, 21-20), Narinder Khajuria and Pradeep pair trounced Vijay and KDS Jamwal in an easy contest by (21-05, 21-07) and the pair of Rohit Sodhi and Ashok had to sweat-it-out to get better of the RP Parihar and Surinder duo by (16-21,21-16, 21-15).
Meanwhile, Scripting a resounding win over Sahil Sharma by (21-08, 16-21and 21-12), Abhishek advanced into the next round of the Under-17 boys singles event in ongoing 27th Jammu District Badminton Championship 2012, at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here.
In the other matches of this category, Satyam trounced Parthak by (21-04, 21-08) and Sarvogya defeated Anuraghya by (21-16, 21-17).
Meanwhile, in Under-10 boys, Yadunandan beat Gopal by (21-04, 21-09).
