Bali asks Govt to compensate victims of weather vagaries

JAMMU, June 24: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Minister, Bali Bhagat has urged the Government to immediately gear up its men and machinery to assess the losses caused to crops and infrastructure including roads, bridges, houses, besides loss of human lives and livestock due to the recent incessant rains and flash floods. However, he lauded the administration for saving precious lives of people caught in flash floods during this weather vagary.
In a statement issued here, today, the former Minister asked the Government to assess the exact losses caused in order to provide compensation to those affected besides initiating measures for restoration of damaged roads and other infrastructure on war footing basis. He said that the farmers who have lost their crops must be compensated on priority basis.
The senior BJP leader appealed to the Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha to issue necessary directions to the administrative heads especially those in the Revenue Department to move out and immediately assess the losses suffered by the people especially the farmers and provide them financial assistance on top priority so that they come out of the distress due to heavy financial losses thrust upon them by the recent weather vagary.
