Bali calls for fine-tuning of SFC functioning

JAMMU, Apr 21: Minister for Forest, Ecology & Environment, Bali Bhagat has called for fine-tuning functioning of J&K State Forest Corporation to make it a self-reliant and profit earning organization.
While reviewing the functioning of the Corporation at a meeting held in his office chamber here today, the Minister said it is the endeavour of the present Government to stimulate working of PSUs to make them more vibrant and result oriented. He called upon the officers to evolve an effective mechanism to bring the Corporation back on track, adding that efforts are needed to set new benchmarks to achieve the desired goals.
In order to make the Corporation financially sound and self-reliant, the Minister ordered constitution of a committee of officers of Forest Department and State Forest Corporation headed by Chief General Manager, SFC, Arshad Mugal, which will suggest measures to further improve the health of the Corporation. The Committee has been assigned the responsibility to study the functioning of the Forest Corporations in other States and recommend measures within one month. The Committee has also been tasked to explore possibility for promoting the forest industry in the State, which will be based on forest produce including value addition of timber products.
It was also decided in the meeting that now onwards all extraction works of more than 20,000 cfts will be executed through open tendering system. The Corporation will also set up its own helpline for the convenience of public; it was also decided in the meeting.
Managing Director SFC, A.K. Tikku gave resume of the functioning of the Corporation.
