SRINAGAR, Aug 26: Minister for Social Welfare, Bali Bhagat has stressed the need for innovative initiatives for the welfare and empowerment of women folk in the State. He said women are playing significant role in the socio-economic and political growth of the country and their contribution cannot be underrated in any manner.
The Minister said this while chairing the 2nd Governing Body meeting of J&K Women Empowerment Society (JKWES) held here today. Minister of State for Social Welfare, Asiya Naqash was also present in the meeting.
While reviewing the functioning of the JKWES, the Minister advocated proactive approach to create ample opportunities for the women folk for their growth in different fields with the involvement of all other departments. He called upon the functionaries of the society to formulate an action plan based on the mandate enshrined in the National Mission for Empowerment of Women (NMEW) and National Mission Authority (NMA). He called upon the State Mission Director, JKWES to maintain close coordination with the other connected departments while undertaking the activities.
The Governing Body also expressed serious concern over the adverse sex ratio in some districts of the State and discussed the ways and means to improve the girl child number.
The Governing Body gave nod for undertaking various activities for the upliftment and empowerment of the women in the State. The meeting also approved proposals related to the strengthening of Poorna Shakti Kendra, Kulgam, establishment of District Convergence-cum-Facilitation Centre, Tehsil Convergence-cum-Facilitation Centres and Village Convergence Centres, setting up of Women Helpline Services, creation of website, fixation of remuneration to the non-official members of the Governing Body and employees of the society and other allied issues pertaining to the day-to-day functioning of the society.
The Mission Director, JKWES, Rubina Kousar gave detailed account of the functioning of the society and future initiatives.
Among others the meeting was attended by Commissioner/Secretary Finance, Navin Choudhary, Commissioner/Secretary School Education, Shaleen Kabra, Secretary Social Welfare, Sanjeev Verma, Secretary Agriculture, Mohammad Ashraf Bukhari and representatives of various departments.
