RAJOURI, Oct 14: A grand function was organized at mini-sports stadium here today in connection with the 342nd birth anniversary of the great Sikh warrior Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, who defeated Mughal Army in the battler of Sirhand (Punjab) and took revenge of the brutal killing of great Guru Gobind Singh’s minor sons from Mughals.
At the township of Rajouri, which is the birth place of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, the people from all walks of life participated in today’s function. Not only from J&K, but the people from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and Delhi attended the religious function here. Several religious leaders including some of them from Amritsar and Delhi, addressed the gathering.
The noted religious Sikh leader from J&K, Mahant Manjit Singh ji of Dera Nangali Sahib (Poonch) was the chief guest at the function while Minister of State for Power and CAPD, Shabir Ahmed Khan, was the guest of honour.
While addressing gathering Mahant Manjit Singh threw light on the life, struggle, sacrifice and achievements of this great Sikh warrior. He said Baba Banda Bahadur’s birth anniversary is celebrated in Punjab, Haryana and other parts of the country but it is unfortunate that this tradition was recently started at the place of his birth in Rajouri. He said this Banda Bairagi was reformed and motivated by Guru Gobind Singh ji who, gave him five sworn men and five arrows and assigned task to wage war against cruel rulers in Punjab and capture Sirhand. He appealed the people connected with the construction of Gurdwara at Baba’s birth place to expedite the task.
Local Sikh leader Nirman Singh said that the place where now Gurdwara is being constructed, earlier belonged to the this family but unfortunately, this has now been purchased from locals for the construction of Gurdwara. He demanded that local Sports Stadium be named as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Stadium and on October 16, holiday be declared on birthday of this great warrior.
Shabir Khan while speaking on the occasion congratulated the people and assured them to take up their demands with the Government. He also assured his full cooperation in the construction of beautiful Gurdwara at Baba’s birth place.
