GUWAHATI, Dec 1: Ahmed Banday played a brilliant knock of 89 runs in 94 balls with the help of 10 fours and 3 massive sixes and helped J&K to score 250 runs in their first innings against Assam in the Under-19 boys match at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, here today. Assam were 31 for 1 at the draw of stumps on day-1 today.
Earlier, put into bat on what looked like a batting track, J&K lost the early wicket in the form of skipper Sidharth Mangotra at the score of 16 runs. Ahmed Banday and number 3 batsaman Shubam Khajuria made a partnership of 52 runs, before Shubam Khajuria was clean bowled by Roshan at his individual score of 12 runs, which was followed by a partnership of 68 runs between Banday and Paras Sharma, who scored 24 off 55 balls with the help of 3 boundaries. After the dismissal of Banday at his individual score of 89 runs, debutant Abhinav Puri salvaged the sinking ship by scoring a patient unbeaten 33 runs in 104 balls without scoring a boundary. Umar Nazir Mir (16), Ateev Saini (15), Zaid Mihd (13) and Aaqib Nazir (11) were the other contributors.
For Assam, Roshan Alam was the pick of the bowlers, who scalped 4 wickets, while Biku Borgohain picked 2 and Amlan Jyoti, Siddharta Barauh, Raunak and Kaushik claimed 1 wicket apiece.
