Srinagar, July 16: The residents of Anderkoot village in the Sumbal area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district are facing an acute shortage of dirking water for the last several months with the administration failing to address their issues.
The residents said that their village is facing immense hardships due to the non-availability of drinking water even though they brought the issue to the notice of the concerned officials.
As the scarcity of drinking water persists, the residents said that they are forced to fetch water from nearby water bodies, which is usually full of impurities.
“There are chances that the residents will be affected due to the water which is full of impurities,” the residents said.
They said that a low capacity water supply scheme which is existing in their area should be upgraded so that the same can cater to the increasing needs of the population.
The locals said that they are forced to send their women, daughters to fetch the water for daily use which not only is cumbersome but also adds to their woes.
The residents appealed to the concerned department and district administration to take note of the issue and take measures so that their issue of scarcity of drinking water is put to an end.
