Banking declared as public utility service till Oct 21

NEW DELHI: The Government has declared banking industry as a Public Utility Service (PUS) for six months till October 21 with effect from April 21, officials said on Saturday.

The move to bring Banking into PUS, in view of novel coronavirus outbreak in the country, means that the employees of banks cannot resort to any strike or agitation during this period.

The order to make banking an essential service was issued by the Department of Financial Services in a circular dated April 20. (AGENCIES)
