JAMMU, Aug 4: J&K High Court Bar Association, (JKHBA), Jammu has strongly condemned the demolition of platform in the Centre of Historic Mubarak Mandi Palace.
The Association in a meeting held under the chairpersonship of Sindhu Sharma, its vice president has unanimously agreed that State should preserve its heritage and Mubarak Mandi Complex is an important heritage site which needs to be preserved rather than being demolished.
A requisition was moved by H C Jamleria a senior member of the Bar Association and the others. The requisition was deliberated upon in the meeting of the Association.
Ranjit Singh Jamwal general secretary, Prem N Sadotra, joint secretary, S Gurdev Singh, treasurer and YLA members, Daljit Singh Manhas its president, Pardeep Majotra, vice president, Sahil Sharma, joint secretary, Shehzia Azad, cashier, B S Manhas, P N Goja, J A Kazmi, B L Kalgotra, M A Bhat, Ravi Abrol, Harihartar Singh and senior members of the Bar attended the meeting.
However, when contacted the Director Tourism, Soujania Sharma said that the decision regarding demolition of the platform was taken by Technical Committee as the platform was nine feet high and it was obstructing vision from the ground.
He said moreover the granite and marble were laid over the surface of the platform, which depict the modern times and don’t resemble the Maharaja’s period. So they will be replaced by Red Stone which belongs to architecture of that period, he added.
