Baramulla lifts U-17 boys’ cricket title

SRINAGAR, June 3: District Baramulla outplayed district Srinagar in a thrilling contest by 2 runs in the summit clash to lift the title trophy in the State Level Inter-District Under-17 Boys Cricket Tournament, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Amar Singh College ground, here today.
Director General Youth Services and Sports, Navin Agarwal was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Zahoor Ahmed, Principal Amar Singh College Srinagar and Muzaffar Tramboo , District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Bandipora.
Earlier, batting first, Baramulla scored a paltry total of 88 runs in 19.4 overs, with Tariq taking 3 wickets, while in reply, Srinagar district bundled-out for 86 runs to lose the match by a narrow margin of 2 runs. It was the outstanding fielding display from the Baramulla boys which fetched them victory.
The Tournament was held at four venues, which included Boys High School Sonawar; Higher Secondary School ground, Zadibal; Anjum Masjid ground, Kamarwari and Amar Singh College ground, Srinagar.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Agarwal said that the Department has organized a State Level event this time to select the State team in order to even draw players from far flung areas to represent various district teams.
He further said that the Department is leaving no stone unturned in taking initiatives to develop sports infrastructure in nooks and corners of the State.
