JAMMU, Nov 28: Led by a brilliant knock of 98 runs by opener Ian Dev Singh, the Jammu and Kashmir batsmen made merry against the otherwise formidable bowling attack of Kerala, which have the likes of quality speedster in Sandeep Warrier and good spinner in CP Shahid in their ranks, in the Ranji trophy Group-C match at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today.
Earlier, put into bat by Assam skipper, J&K riding on a magnificent innings of 98 runs by Ian Dev Singh, coupled with good contributions from almost all other batsmen, managed to end the day at 312/4, thus putting themselves in comfort zone. Ian, who missed the ton by a whisker hit 16 magnificent boundaries and one six in his 125-ball knock and was instrumental in making a partnership of 123 runs alongwith promising Bandeep Singh, who scored brilliant 49 runs with the help of 10 fours before running himself out in yes- no yes-no situation. However, after the dismissal of skipper Parvez Rasool, who contributed power-packed 40 runs, studded with 5 crispy boundaries and one maximum, it was the duo of Hardeep Singh and Majid Dar all the way, who have already made a partnership of unbeaten 87 runs for the fifth wicket.
On the one side, Sandeep Warrier was bowling with plenty of speed and hitting good areas after taking Rasool’s wicket, but on the other solid, the pair of Majid and Hardeep was rock solid in defence and charismatic in offence. Hardeep was unbeaten on 51 runs off 76 balls with 9 boundaries and Majid was on 53 off 118 balls, studded with 5 boundaries and 2 massive sixes at stumps on day-1 today. For Kerala, speedsters Warrier and Prasanth Parameswaran and spinner CP Shahid shared one wicket each.
