JAMMU, Mar 20: Greater Kailash police busted battery stealing racket with the arrest of two persons and recovery of five stolen batteries of the vehicles worth Rs 27,000.
As per police sources, Sunil Dutta, son of Kartar Chand of Ambika Colony, Greater Kailash lodged a complaint with police post Greater Kailash on March 16 that some unidentified burglars decamped with the battery of his tipper on the intervening night of March 15 and 16. The complainant also stated that the thieves broke open the window pains of the vehicle and stole the blanket also.
Acting on the complaint, a case under FIR number 33/14 under Section 379 and 427 RPC was registered at Greater Kailash Police Post and investigation started.
During the course of investigation, police picked up two suspects namely Jawala Prasad Sabarwal, son of Manohar Lal, a resident of Punjab, presently residing at Ambika Colony, Greater Kailash and his associate Prabhat Sharma alias Chamkila, son of Ram Pal, a resident of Ambika Colony, Greater Kailash for questioning.
During questioning, duo broke down and confessed their involvement in the crime. The accused also revealed that they used to steal the batteries of the vehicles and sell them in the market.
On the disclosure of the accused, five stolen batteries worth Rs 27,000 and a blanket were recovered by the police.
The arrested burglars were involved in various theft cases, which had taken place in Kaluchack, Kunjwani and adjoining areas in the recent past.
Further investigation into the case is going on to ascertain the involvement of these arrested accused in other theft cases.
The arrest was made by SI Pawan Dogra, In-charge Police Post Greater Kailash under the supervision of SP City South Rahul Malik, SDPO Gandhi Nagar Harjeet Singh and SHO Gangyal police station Jasbir Singh.
