JAMMU, Mar 9: Welcoming the decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to give monetary incentives to senior cricketers for playing the Ranji Trophy matches, Brig Anil Gupta, Member-Administration Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) said that the de vision would certainly go a long way in encouraging and motivating professional cricketers to take the red ball cricket more seriously.
He said BCCI’s this innovative scheme is a testament to BCCI’s commitment to recognising and rewarding the efforts of the cricketers, fostering a sense of financial security and motivation to excel in Test Cricket.
“This was the much needed reform to ensure the longevity of Red Ball Cricket, the true form of cricket. It would certainly go a long way in encouraging and motivating professional cricketers to take the Red Ball Cricket more seriously,” said Brig Gupta.
He said the shorter and the shortest versions of the game are fine, but Test Cricket is the real test of the skill and talent of the players.
Brig Gupta said the Test Cricket has produced the geniuses like Sunil Gavaskar, Viv Richards and likes, who pulled huge crowds with their class and charisma.
“With this decision the young cricketers would automatically be lured towards the longest version of the game,” maintained Brig Gupta.
