JAMMU, June 15: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today constituted a three members committee to look after the affair of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) in a meeting in which Retd Brig Anil Gupta (Senior BJP leader) has been appointed Administrator while two other members including Sunil Sethi who is also BJP spokesperson as legal expert and Mithun Manhas a veteran cricketer as a member.
The development regarding formation of the committee was confirmed by the newly appointed Administrator of the JKCA, Retd Brig Anil Gupta with Excelsior.
He disclosed that a meeting was held under the leadership of BCCI president Sourav Ganguly in presence of secretary BCCI Jai Shah and treasure Arun Dhumal wherein three members committee including him were part of the committee to look after the day to day affair of the JKCA.
It is pertinent to mention here that in the month of March this year, the double bench of the J&K High Court led by Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and Justice Puneet Gupta had put an end on the functioning of the Court Appointed Administrator (CAA), retd IPS officer Syed Ashiq Hussain Bukhari and directed the BCCI to constitute a fresh committee for the affairs.
In the backdrop of the court order, the BCCI today constituted this committee for bridging the gap between the BCCI and JKCA and for taking decisions as per the direction of the Court order.
While disposing off bunch of petitions, filed by various stakeholders, the Court felt that there is no further need of their continuation (CAA), as such, discontinued the appointment of CAA and the CEO and also directed the BCCI to run the management of the Association as an interim measure and till a new body of the JKCA is elected under its supervision with the further direction to CAA to immediately handed over the affairs of the same to new body.
The court also put forth some suggestion for the Apex body of cricket including to finalize the amendment in the constitution of JKCA in conformity with the recommendations made by the Lodha Committee as approved by the Supreme Court, consult all the stakeholders, including the parties (i.e., the representatives of the erstwhile clubs of the JKCA as also of the District Cricket Associations now formed by the CAA).
They further directed that the BCCI shall ensure promotion of cricketing activities in the J&K as well as Union Territory of Ladakh and ensure that the required infrastructure on ground is improved and made available to the cricketers of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh without waiting for any audit report.
Mithun Manhas is a familiar name in Indian cricket and it is the first time in Jammu’s history when a Jammu based player has been appointed in the Apex body of the cricket. He has the distinction of representing India A, Board President XI, India U-19s, besides IPL teams like Delhi Daredevils, Chennai Super Kings and Pune Warriors. He has the reputation of scoring 9714 runs with 27 centuries and 49 half-centuries with an average of 45.82 in first class cricket.
