JKCA to build up Arun Jaitley Sports Stadium in Hiranagar

JAMMU, May 11: The ambiguity for the construction of much awaited Arun Jaitley Memorial Sports Complex has been cleared by honorary Secretary of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah during his visit in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
Jay Shah also asked the Government (J&K Sports Council) during the meeting to handover the piece of land to Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) for the construction of said stadium which was earlier transferred by the District Administration to Council for the construction of the same in the memory of BJP’s stalwart leader late Arun Jaitley in the border area of Hiranagar in Kathua district.
Sources informed Excelsior that during the meeting with officials of JKCA and Secretary Sports Council at Jammu, the BCCI Secretary asked the Secretary Nuzhat Gul to officially transfer the major chunk of land nearly 144 kanals and 12 marlas to J&K Cricket Association for the construction of ambitious project.
In the month of March 2022, the District Administration Kathua through SDM Hiranagar officially transferred the piece of land for the ambiguous project to J&K Sports Council.
Important to mention here that the Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh along with then Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju and Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha laid the e-foundation for the construction of Arun Jaitley Memorial Sports Complex in September 2020 from New Delhi and Srinagar respectively.
During the inauguration, it was mentioned that the said stadium will be among one of the largest stadiums in the country after Narendra Modi Stadium situated inside the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave Ahmedabad and Eden Garden Stadium at Kolkata, which is the country’s oldest stadium.
As per proposal the upcoming ‘Arun Jaitley Memorial Sports Complex’ would have multiple sports facilities of international and national levels which will attract the players towards sports and it will be a true tribute to BJP stalwart leader who had, all his life groomed youth talent.
Sources further said that the BCCI Secretary also instructed JKCA sub-committee to improve infrastructure across the Union Territory and make special efforts to renovate Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium Srinagar, so that international level matches would be held here.
“The BCCI Secretary also praised the JKCA’s sub-committee for holding ‘Talent Hunt’ for the last two constructive years which is helping the players to sharpen their skills,” sources added.
Secretary Jay Shah also met the administrators and officials of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) and interacted with young cricketers in Jammu at JKCA Hostel ground, during his visit. He came here with BCCI treasurer and incharge JKCA, Ashish Shelar .
