HANDWARA, July 17: Beliyan Premier League, an annual Cricket tournament, organised by Beliyan Army Camp to promote competitive spirit among cricketers was inaugurated, here today.
A total of 16 teams including teams of Handwara, Magam, Kupwara and Tangdhar are taking part in the tournament.
During the opening day, four matches were played, wherein Beliyan Tigers locked horns with KKR. Batting first, KKR scored 68 runs by losing nine wickets in stipulated 12 overs, while chasing the target Beliyan Tigers chased the target by losing only six wickets in 11.5 overs and won the match by four wickets.
The 2nd match was played between Royal Challengers and Himalayan Stars. Himalayan Star won the toss, decided to bat first and made 107 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted overs.
The Royal Challengers achieved the target in 8.2 overs by losing only two wickets and won the match by eight wickets, whereas in the 3rd match, Haphruda CC beat Yong boys by 67 runs. Haphruda CC made 135 runs in stipulated overs while the opponent team failed to chase the target and bundled out at 68 runs and lost the match by 67 runs.
Besides, the final match was played between Royal Red and Red Army. Batting first, Royal Army made 99 runs in 11.5 overs by losing all wickets, whereas the Royal Red failed to achieve the set target and all out at 68 runs and lost the match by 31 runs.
