SRINAGAR, Oct 27: Belmount Rugby lifted Under 19 title, whereas district Jammu team scalped the runner-up trophy in State Level Rugby 7s Festival, being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Rugby Association in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council at Gindun Sports Centre here today.
In Under 14 girls, Oak Hill School emerged winner, whereas Bhalwal High School was adjudged runner-up.
In Under 14 boys, Burn Hall High School and district Budgam emerged winner and runner-up respectively.
In Under 17 girls, Presentation Convent High School and Satwari Higher Secondary Jammu emerged winner and runner-up respectively.
In Under 17 boys, Burn Hall High School and Green Valley Educational Institution emerged winner and runner-up respectively.
In open girls category, Belmount Girls Rugby Club emerged winner, whereas Women College MA Road Srinagar settled as runner-up.
On the occasion, Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Nazir Ahmad Gurezi was the chief guest, who awarded winner and runner up teams besides participating players in presence of large number of sports lovers and officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister said that talent is present among the students of State but need is to channelize it in a proper way so that they can compete at National and International levels.
He asked the organizers to organise such events in other parts of the State so that hidden talent of the budding youth will be explored.
Government is determined to promote the sports activities, he said, adding that sufficient funds have been earmarked and special focus has been given to strengthen the sports infrastructure in the State.
Minister asked the players to hone their skill which will enable them to participate and compete at National and International levels.
Interacting with the players, he said that organizing such events provides a befitting platform for the youth to interact with each other and display their skills besides improving their overall personality.
In the competition, about 300 boys and girls Under 17 and Under 19 age groups drawn from Jammu, Poonch, Bandipora, Budgam, Srinagar, Baramulla, Kupwara and Ganderbal districts participated.
