JAMMU, July 11: Bethel Church and Pentecostal Church registered their emphatic wins in the inaugural day of the 2nd Inter-Church Cricket Tournament which got underway at Alexander Memorial High School, here today.
The Tournament is being organized jointly by the Christian Sports Organization and J&K Police.
The Tournament is being organized under the overall supervision of Fr Kuriakose, Chairman Christian Sports Organization.
The first match was played between the Catholic Church-B XI and Bethel Church.
The Catholic Church-B XI won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 88 runs in the allotted 12 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Varun and Joshwa scored 27 and 23 runs respectively. From Bethel Church XI, Stephan took 3 wickets, while Aman took 2.
In reply, Bethel Church XI chased the target in 11.4 overs by losing 4 wickets. Amit and Joshwa contributed 25 and 18 runs to the total respectively. From Catholic Church-B XI, Shampy and Gavin shared two wickets each. Amit was declared man of the match.
The match was officiated by Vinod and Ambrose.
In another match, Pentecostal Church defeated North India Church XI by 56 runs in an easy contest.
Batting first, Pentecostal Church XI scored 105 runs in the allotted 12 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Rohan, Danis and Rubain scored 36, 14 and 13 runs respectively. From CNI Church, Snoopy, Anish and Davien shared 3 wickets each.
In reply, CNI Church could not chase the target and were bundled out for a paltry total of 49 runs, thus lost the match by 56 runs. Anish and Monu contributed 16 and 12 runs respectively. For Pentecostal, Rohit took 3 wickets, while Romario, Asif and Nitish shared 2 wickets each. Rohan was adjudged as the man of the match.
PDP leader Bharat Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion, while Fr Kuriakose was the guest of honour. Sanjay Gupta was the special guest.
The guests were introduced with the participating teams of the opening match on the occasion.
The chief guest announced Rs 5000 cash prize for the finalists.
Earlier, Rajesh Gill, president of the Christian Sports Organization presented welcome address.
Evangical Church will lock horns with Pentecostal Church XI, while St Peters’ Catholic Church will take on Bethel Church XI at the same venue tomorrow.
