NEW DELHI, Feb 12: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture, Raman Bhalla, today laid foundation stone of extension building block of Kissan Ghar at Shalimar Bagh to be completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 4.26 crore by Horticulture Planning and Marketing Department.
Principal Resident Commissioner, Raj Kumar Goel, Commissioner/Secretary Horticulture Department, Shaleen Kabra, Director Horticulture (P&M), A R Natnoo, Joint Director Horticulture (P&M), S.L.Hangloo besides traders and growers in large number were present on the occasion.
After laying foundation stone of Kissan Ghar, Bhalla addressed a large gathering of fruit growers, traders and said that the Extension Building block of Kissan Ghar would be completed with all basic facilities.
The Minister said that Government is making all efforts to boost fruit and vegetable sector across the country, as the horticulture sector is one of the primary contributors of the State economy and provides employment to a large chunk of population.
For providing accommodation to the growers and traders, Mr. Bhalla said Government is planning to provide such Kissan Ghar facilities in various parts of the country like Amritsar, Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Patna, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lukhnow and Mumbai so that they would be facilitated with better accommodation.
He said Government has directed the officers of Horticulture, (Planning and Marketing) to arrange awareness camps for small and marginal growers in their respective jurisdictions about the Centrally and State sponsored schemes. He asked them to hold exhibitions, shows, seminar, symposia and buyer-seller meets for development of the agricultural and horticulture trade.
The Minister stressed for exploring new markets to promote State’s horticulture products. He asked the officers to have regular interaction between the growers and traders to sort out the petty issues and problems being faced by the business community associated with this trade.
Bhalla said Central and State Governments have launched various schemes under Horticulture sector through APEDA, NHB, HNHE, DMI, MFPI besides several other schemes.
The Minister said that attention was required to be focused both on the production of quality horticulture produce and its proper export to the terminal and satellite markets ensuring substantial returns to the fruit growers. He said that the production and productivity of horticulture have shown remarkable increase during last 4 years.
