Bhandari chairs workshop on pulse polio campaign

JAMMU, Dec 13: A divisional level workshop on pulse polio campaign 2017 was organized by Directorate of Family Welfare, MCH & Immunization, J&K, in collaboration with NPSP-WHO, here today at Nagrota.
Dr M K Bhandari, Commissioner/Secretary, Health & Medical Department, J&K, chaired the workshop, which was attended by Director Health Services, Jammu, Mission Director ,National Health Mission, J&K, Assistant Director Family Welfare, Jammu along with all Chief Medical officers, Deputy Chief Medical Officers and District Immunization officers of Jammu Division.
The workshop was facilitated by Dr Baldev Raj Sharma, Director Family Welfare, MCH & Immunization, J&K. A brief preparedness plan and feedback of previous years pulse polio campaign was discussed. Dr Sharma also informed that two rounds of pulse polio campaign are planned for 2017. First round of pulse polio is on 29th January 2017 and second round is scheduled on 2nd April 2017.
Dr M.K Bhandari stressed upon that even as India has made tremendous progress towards achieving the goal of polio eradication and it has been more than 5 years that the country has not reported any polio case, still the risk of importation of polio virus from neighboring countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan is there. He directed all the participants that there should be updated microplanning, 100 percent coverage of high risk areas like slums, nomads, construction sites and brick kilns with high quality pulse polio campaign and ensure that all children upto 5 years should be vaccinated with two drops of polio vaccine.
