KATRA, May 1: Dr Mandeep K Bhandari, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) gave away prizes to the winners and runners-up athletes of the Board’s Annual Staff Sports Meet in a well attended function, here today.
As many as 90 officials of the Shrine Board had participated in the Sports Meet which was organized by the Sports Wing of the Shrine Board during the month of March, 2014 in the games of Table Tennis and Badminton.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Executive Officer said that the Staff Sports Meet is part of the annual calendar of sports activities of the Shrine Board.
He directed the Sports Wing to include more sports in its itinerary, particularly the ones which are popular in the rural and far-flung areas.
The CEO said that the participation in sports helps one in keeping mind and body agile and enhance performance.
Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, in his welcome address, dwelt on the sports activities organized by the Board in the past months and future plan of action in this behalf.
Those who were given prizes by Dr Bhandari on this occasion included Amit Sharma for being winner in the Inter-Zonal Table Tennis singles category and Dinesh Nanda being the runners-up.
In doubles category in this event, Amit Sharma and Munish Prashar were given prizes for being winners and Abhishek Sharma and Vivek Dubey for runners-up.
In badminton singles category, Vipen Sharma was given the prize for being winner and Sunit Sharma for runners-up, while in badminton doubles, Vipen Sharma and Joginder Singh were given the prize for being winners and Abhishek Sharma and Sumit Gandotra for emerging runners-up.
The winners and runners-up of Zonal level tournaments in both the games were also felicitated on this occasion. In all, 38 participants of the Sports Meet were given winners and runners-up prizes while the remaining participants were given participation certificates.
Among those present on the occasion were Neeraj Gupta, Chief Accounts Officer, Pankaj Sharma and Pankaj Gupta, Deputy Chief Executive Officers, S C Gupta, Superintending Engineer and other officers and officials of the Board.
