PUNE: Bollywood singer Richi Banna has reiterated his threat of disrupting the screening of upcoming historical Hindi movie ‘Padmavati’, directed by noted film-maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, if the film contained any objectionable scenes that could hurt the sentiments of Rajput community.
Addressing reporters here, Banna said, “Bhansali is thinking that media and government are supporting him, but the Rajput community will not allow any distortion of the real history.”
He demanded deletion of the scenes between Chittor queen Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji, the ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, because they never met each other as per the history of India.
Banna, who belongs to the Rajput community and fights for the cause of the community, said that his community was proud of their historical past and asked Bhansali not to show any objectionable scenes in the movie that could hurt the feelings of Rajputana.
“There are more than 10 crore Rajputs in India and you cannot hurt their feelings for the sake of money, you cannot play with their sentiments,” he said.
“If he does, then he should be ready to face the consequences,” Banna warned.
The community had already requested Bhansali, through a letter, not to change the history for the sake of money, he said and added that the film-maker did not reply to it. Padmavati — starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor — is slated for release in December. (AGENCIES)
