Bid to smuggle bovine animals foiled at Lakhanpur, 16 animals rescued

KATHUA, Feb 11: Continu-ing with the drive against smugglers, a joint team of the officials of Toll Post Lakhanpur and Police Department Lakhanpur today foiled yet another major smuggling bid and seized a truck with 16 bovine animals when it entered into the State.
As per reports, a vehicle bearing registration no JK02AH-5977 while trying to enter into the State this afternoon was intercepted by the vigilant staff at Toll Post, Lakhanpur. The vehicle, which was consigned by BTS Amritsar, was subjected to physical check when reported at the Toll Post for clearance. As per the documents the vehicle was carrying “Tiles” vide GR No. 1416 dated 09/02/18 issued by M/s Jallandhar Road Transport, Gurdaspur Road, Pathankot-145001.
However, on physical checking the vehicle was found carrying 16 numbers of bovine animals. The vigilant staff of the Toll Post Lakhanpur in co-ordination with Police Department Lakhanpur seized the vehicle and rescued 16 bovine animals on spot.
The police arrested the driver of the vehicle along with his accomplice.  It is the third detection of bovine smuggling at Toll Post Lakhanpur since October 2017, police said.
The operation was conducted by the joint team headed by Excise & Taxation Officers Sandeep Gupta, Varinder Singh Pawar,   Ajay Bharti,   Suraj Chander Singh and Sajjad Sofi, SHO Police Station Lakhanpur, Kulbir Choudhary along with Inspectors  Ravinder Singh, Dheeraj Kumar, Khalid Javed Manhas and Veeraj Raina, Sub-Inspector Surinder Singh Bagal, S.Manvinder Pal Singh, Vinay Kumar and Excise Guards Mohd. Shakeel, Rajesh Kumar and  Sohan Lal under the direct supervision of Suleman Choudhary, SSP, Kathua and Vishesh Paul Mahajan, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 15/2018 dated 11.02.2018 under Section 188 RPC 3 PC Act has been lodged in Police Station Lakhanpur.
